In book layer traditional margins setup starts with the top margin.
Gutter margins sizes.
When you choose size for top margin you double that size for the bottom margin.
Change the margins for top bottom left and right to 1.
Side margins also known as outside gutters are the amount of white space outside of your content width.
This particular book happened to be fairly thick 356 pages so i set the gutter to 0 3 inches.
That is what you see in the photo.
In a book of this size i would usually recommend minimum 75 margins and a little more on the gutter binding side.
You can also work with a professional who knows the climate in your area and who understands what size of gutter you need to work with the roof that you have.
Inner margin should be 0 75 of the top margin and outer margin should be set at twice the size of inner margin.
To restore the original margin settings click margins and then click custom margins.
0 625 in 15 9 mm at least 0 25 in 6 4 mm at least 0 375 in 9 6 mm 501 to 700 pages.
In the pages area set it to mirror margins.
0 375 in 9 6 mm at least 0 25 in 6 4 mm at least 0 375 in 9 6 mm 151 to 300 pages.
Side margins on mobile are usually 20 30px and vary a lot between tablet and desktop.
And make sure these settings apply to whole document at the bottom by selecting that in the dropdown.
Here are the numbers you need to adjust your drainage area number.
Multiply drainage area by 1 1.
Multiply drainage area by 1 2.
A properly designed gutter margin reduces the risk of losing content in the curve of the pages.
Generally speaking 0 5 inches for your gutter margin is recommended for most books.
Insert the spine measurements selected trim size width and height and the 0 125 3 mm bleed requirement into the following equations to find your cover size.
A standard is to set the left and right margins at a half inch each and to then have a quarter inch gutter.
Then click the default button and click yes.
So what size should my gutter margin be.
To change the margins for part of a document select the text and then set the margins that you want by entering the new margins in the page setup dialog box.
Set the margins as 0 76 on the top bottom and inside and 0 5 on the outside.
So if you re doing a physical book make sure you understand what a gutter is and that you set it up.
However an appointment diary is quite different from a novel or nonfiction book and i would probably reduce the margins to about 5 again with slightly more on the gutter side to compensate for the curve of the binding.
Then set the gutter as 0 13.

A gutter margin can smaller for books with less curve and larger for books with more curve.

For a more accommodating design the side margins increase as you go up in device width.
